1960s

The 1960s ushered in a time of radical change in social behavior.  As women became more independent, empowered and emancipated, their clothing and jewelry reflected new attitudes. Mini skirts, gogo boots, and psychedelic colors called for jewelry designers to also explore new approaches to jewelry design.  Abstract art, pop culture, and freeform design were all expressed in jewelry.  Also known as the “Flower Power” era, pacifists protested the Viet Nam war, with flower symbolism.  Enameled flower brooches and earrings in vibrant and neon colors are still an iconic symbol of the 1960s.
